Melissa J. Brackett, 46, of Ledyard, is facing multiple charges, including possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence, according to the Ledyard police.
Officers spotted a black GMC Envoy parked in the athletic field entrance lot of the high school at around 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 17. When they approached the vehicle, they found Brackett inside and immediately noticed signs of intoxication, authorities said.
Brackett was asked to step out of the vehicle, and as she did, a “crack pipe” fell to the ground, police said. Officers then took her into custody, and Brackett allegedly admitted she had crack cocaine on her person.
A subsequent search of her vehicle uncovered additional drug paraphernalia, which police seized.
Brackett was booked at Ledyard Police Headquarters and held on a $7,500 bond, police said.
